It’s Christmas day, the presents are opened, toys are assembled and you’re surrounded by mounds of colorful, crumpled wrapping paper. The next step – cleaning up Christmas aftermath. This typically begins by smashing wrapping paper, cards and boxes into as many trash bags needed to see your floor again. Those stuffed bags of paper are then thrown out with trash and end up in the landfill. All that
wrapping paper you just cleaned up is just that – paper – it all can and should be recycled. Why not start a new tradition and continue the giving by RECYCLING or REUSING that mound of wrapping paper, cardboard toy and gift boxes, Christmas cards and envelopes?
- wrapping paper
- cardboard wrapping paper rolls
- gift tissue paper
- gift boxes and tags
- calendars (remove metal wire if attached)
- cards and envelopes
- catalogs
- anything that has the recycling symbol with number 1, 2 or 5
- Shred the colored wrapping paper to use as colorful and protective packaging around future gifts.
- Use shredded wrapping paper to protect your Christmas decorations before storing them for the next holiday season
- Use large pieces of wrapping paper to cover a shoe box and create a storage container.
- Like newspaper, wrapping paper is great for cleaning windows and leaving them streak-free – use it instead of paper towels or a cloth. (Avoid using the shiny/plastic stuff though.)
